With Wifi6 coming and lower cost/lower power PHYs for 2.5G there will switches, NAS and other gear with 2.5G in the market thats affordable in the net 18 to 24 months. For ALL new ethernet drops go CAT6 or better so you future proof for Mgig (2.5/5/10G). MOCA will still outperform wifi on reliability and speed today VS wifi and ethernet is a no brainer. MOCA you may need to tinker with and RG59 cable has bandwidth limitations as well VS RG6 the newer cable standard going into homes. These use the AC power and work really well unlike "Poweline" and they use TDMA. You MUST use the ground in addition to the 2 power pins for G.hn to run reliably at full speed and no filters or line conditioners in front of them. They will actually fly over COAX but I have yet to see a Cable connector G.Hn. I also have G.HN in a few spots with Comtrend PG9172 Kit for a pair $83 on amazon. If you do go MOCA, go 2.5 unless someone sells you a smokin deal on MOCA 2.0. If you are in a hurry like we were with 3 adults remoting in on WebX, Zoom, etc and it was crushing the wifi and too much lag/latency and some calls dropping - so we deployed MOCA in a few hours across a 4500 Sqft home. Im running both ethernet and MOCA, but only because Covid had family moving back into parents house (Im dad). Įthernet is by far the best path if you can run it. Admittedly I don’t know much about MoCa so I don’t know the pros and cons to it over Ethernet. Should I just run more Ethernet cables throughout the house or should I get a MoCa adapter since I’ve got coax everywhere. I’ve also got an Ethernet cable running from my upstairs central closet where my current modem and router is to my downstairs bedroom. Where the real question though is should I go with MoCa or Ethernet throughout my house? I’ve got coax literally everywhere throughout my house. MoCA home networking technology will give you a reliable, ultra-high-speed connection over the existing coaxial wiring already in your home. It uses the existing coaxial cables already in most people’s homes to create an Ethernet-like Internet Autobahn. You can use MoCA Home adapters for extending any network or internet connection over a coax cable. MoCA stands for Multimedia over Coax Alliance, which is an open industry standards consortium. However, MoCA adapters allow for a multi-point network, connecting multiple Ethernet cables as a hub does. Also considering getting a third AP for my detached garage which is about ~40 ft from my house in the future. MoCA adaptors in a home network can adapt an Ethernet cable to a coax cable and then back to an Ethernet cable. Will get a PoE switch in the future or if I can find a good deal I’ll pick one up too. As a basis I have spectrum 500/20 and plan on getting an edge router or a USG (which would you recommend?), and two Unifi AP lites for my upstairs and downstairs (bi level 2200 sq foot). Hey all, trying to figure out how I want to set up my home network.
